Found in the London Borough of Newham, Plaistow is a residential area in East London. It forms most of the E13 postcode. As expected for a residential area, it is mainly urban and includes several council estates. Places nearby to Plaistow include Canning Town, East Ham and Upton Park and it is surrounded by postcode districts including E16, E6 and E15. Plaistow has a few convenience stores and post offices as you would expect from an urban residential area, but mainly Plaistow is made up of houses, flats and other housing, although shops are only a short walk away. Plaistow is connected to the London Underground, making it easily accessible to get in and out of the area. Plaistow appears to be the place to be born if you want to be a sports person, with footballers Sol Campbell, Tony Cottee, Rob Lee and Martin Peters all born here. The first man to swim the English Channel in both directions, Edward Temme, was also born here. Along with this, Plaistow has also been the birth place to many other famous people. Money provided by the Big Lottery Fund has helped to improve Plaistow over the past few years, with this money helping to provide more community facilities in the area.
